The days of adventurous teens sneaking into the Jefferson municipal pool for “after hours” swimming are over, after security concerns prompted the Jefferson park and recreation department to Install a video surveillance system. The new system was installed last week and is in operation.
Four cameras are trained on the pool and Chautauqua Park. The system records continuously and can be accessed remotely via a cellular phone by Jefferson park and recreation director Vicky Lautner or pool supervisor Simeon Lang.
A pair of automatic LED night lights were installed on the west side of the pool, along with a motion sensor light on the concession stand.
JPRD director Vicky Lautner is excited to have the system in place. The concession stand has been broken into more than once. The lights on the west side of the pool are to make it easier to identify any intruders, she said.
Funding for the system comes from a $5,502 grant from the Greene County Community Foundation and the park and recreation department’s share of hotel/motel tax revenue.
